BHEL Bags 2,400 MW Thermal Power Contract in Odisha
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a contract for a 2,400 MW thermal power generating plant in Jharsuguda district, Odisha. The contract, awarded by NLC India, involves the establishment of a pithead greenfield thermal power project. BHEL will be responsible for engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, and commissioning of equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators, balance of plants (BoP), Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD), and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) for 2,400 MW (3x800 MW, Stage-I). The project, based on ultra-supercritical technology, has power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Kerala, and Puducherry. The first unit is scheduled to be commissioned in the financial year 2028-29, focusing on environmental compliance through advanced pollution control technologies.
