Centre rolls out repowering of old wind turbines policy
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched the 'National Repowering & Life Extension Policy for Wind Power Projects-2023' to revitalize aging wind turbines. The policy encourages the replacement of older turbines by allowing developers to upgrade components like gearbox, blades, generator, and controller. Eligibility criteria cover non-compliance with quality control orders, turbines beyond their design life, and those with a rated capacity below two MW. State nodal agencies (SNAs) and a central nodal agency (CNA) will play key roles in facilitating policy implementation. The initiative provides a framework for both standalone and aggregation wind projects.
