GMDC Allocates ₹900 cr for 1st Underground Copper Mine in Gujarat
Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) earmarks ₹900 crore for the development of its inaugural underground copper mine in northern Gujarat. The 184-hectare mine, situated near Ambaji town, boasts a copper ore concentration exceeding 11.5%, as per recent geo-magnetic surveys. GMDC plans comprehensive studies and exploration, including deeper drilling, with the extracted minerals intended for sale to smelter businesses. The company anticipates the creation of a concentrator plant near the mine to separate metals from the mining concentrate, which comprises primarily copper, zinc, and lead. With over seven lakh tonnes of reserves, GMDC aims to conduct extensive exploration in the adjacent 1,400-hectare area for additional base metal reserves. GMDC is a major lignite producer in India.
