NTPC to Bid for 1,800 MW Thermal Power Project in Chhattisgarh
NTPC is gearing up to bid for the 1,800-megawatt (MW) KSK Mahanadi thermal power project in Chhattisgarh, with Power Finance Corporation (PFCL) as the lead lender. The project, currently undergoing corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP) at the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), is being pursued by the union power ministry to be picked up by government entities. The move aligns with the ministry's strategy to expedite the turnaround of such plants to boost power supply and meet growing demand. Encouraging participation from public sector power generating companies, the ministry listed KSK Mahanadi among four assets deemed strategically significant for state capacity addition plans. Despite operational status and power purchase agreements with Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh, the project faced coal shortage, necessitating coal imports despite coal linkage under the SHAKTI scheme.
