In view of the rising demand, we are bringing greater efficiencies in our production systems as per Manitowoc’s global standards, and are using newer materials, adapting improved jigs and fixtures, and even curtailing wastage during production.

The year 2023 has been buoyant for Manitowoc Potain India’s tower crane business, and the company remains bullish on demand in 2024 as well due to the ongoing infrastructure projects.

Bracing up to meet rising demand

In view of the demand projection from infra development projects, we are ensuring timely delivery of our products along with services and support across the lifecycle of the cranes. We also aim to strengthen our brand recall through promotions and awareness programs of our products.

We have witnessed a spike in demand for tower cranes across all capacities since 2022-end and during 2023 as well. There is also some pent-up demand, plus, the changes in construction regulations in commercial and residential buildings of 30-35 storeys, in cities like Hyderabad, Pune Nashik, South Chennai, and in some cities of Kerala and parts of North India, are factors driving the current demand. Fresh demand for 5-10 units of our cranes is also coming from upcoming townships.

Shortage of construction laborers, and, notably, growing awareness of the many uses of tower cranes like pouring of concrete, lifting, and slewing, etc, and the increasing affordability of these machines, are also behind the growing popularity of cranes.

Ramping up production efficiency as per Manitowoc global standards

To meet our backlog of orders, we have kept our production unit in Pune running for three shifts and have even ramped up the facility to increase production from 35 to 40 units per month to over 50 units per month. We are bringing greater efficiencies in our production systems in accordance with the Manitowoc standards followed across its manufacturing facilities across the world. We are making value additions by using newer materials, improving our manufacturing processes and adapting improved jigs and fixtures, and even curtailing wastage during production. All these measures have helped our manufacturing facility to keep its overhead and production costs in check while meeting delivery timelines.

Expanding markets and enhancing customer service

Potain is targeting new markets like the North East, where it is keen to promote its 5-10 capacity tower cranes. We are also promoting our higher capacity 10-12-16-20-ton flattop tower cranes to big EPC contractors like Tata Projects and NCC engaged in greenfield airports and expansion projects.

We anticipate a growing demand for the higher capacity tower cranes in the years to come not only in residential and commercial projects but also in road and bridge infrastructure construction. This is because tower cranes are widening their application potential, enabling them to work across a variety of projects.

Potain has strengthened its marketing team with 16 new sales managers and 70 service engineers who work closely with the dealers and channel partners, and also advise customers on the crane type and model as per their project needs, and also on the right and safe installation of the cranes.
