UP approves Rs. 500-cr for urban infra upgrade
The UP government has approved Rs. 500 crore for the state’s urban development department to build new roads and upgrade existing ones in the state. The government has already sanctioned a scheme to provide interest-free loans for the construction of industrial corridors along expressways in the state. The project implementing agencies will have to strictly adhere to the detailed guidelines for the scheme for the improvement of roads in cities. In fact, there are three types of roads in cities — one, wider than 45 metres; second, narrow lanes less than 10 metres; and third, roads between 10 and 45 metres which are significant in cities. For such roads, there have been no proper guidelines and arrangements for repair. However, in view of the emerging market demands and increasing traffic, the state government is keen to build roads that meet global standards in cities across the state.
