Telangana govt unveils Hyderabad Metro expansion plan
Telangana's state government has planned to expand the Hyderabad Metro network by 250 kms The phase 2 expansion will connect BHEL to Lakdi-ka-pul (26 km) and Jubilee Bus Station to ECIL, adding to the existing 71-kilometer network. Additionally, a 31-kilometer Airport Express Metro line will link Shamshabad to Raidurg, benefiting both air travelers and opening up the southwest corridor of Hyderabad.
The withdrawal of GO-111, which restricted development around Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar lakes, has cleared the way for construction activities. The upcoming Pharma City, located 30 kms south of the airport, is expected to drive growth in the south and southeast regions of Hyderabad.
The eastern parts of the city also have potential for development, particularly in electronics and aerospace industries in Kongarakalan, Adibatla, and Ghatkesar. Plans are underway for a medical devices park, education city, film city, and sports city, which will eventually be connected to the metro network.
